PDM Creative Arts

Emma has creatively developed her own method of working through music and the arts through a diverse 27-year professional career working as a Teacher of Music, SEN and Autism, as well as developing a reputation as a Freelance Creative artist and musician. She enjoys all things creative and artistic and has an uncanny gift of being able to use these skills to connect profoundly with her clients as well as a unique ability to see what others may miss.

Her career has included work in Shetland, Orkney, Highland and Moray Councils as a mainstream classroom Music Teacher and in Special Education Departments as an SEN and Autism Teacher. She has also worked with Scottish Booktrust, Drake Music, Youth Music Initiative, Dementia Friendly Orkney and Scottish Ballet in their Dance for Parkinsons Project.

Emma has undertaken study in High Functioning Autism, Sensory processing disorders, Anxiety disorders, PDA, Parkinson's, Trauma, Elective mutism, Synesthesia, Executive functioning and OCD and has

developed and delivered programmes for children with complex and profound needs, as well as staff training around special needs, Autism, PDA, Anxiety, Executive functioning, sensory overload and communication difficulties.

Alongside this, she has developed performance and MD skills in amateur theatre and stage production. As well as acting, she has been part of the Professional Singers Course at the St Magnus Festival in Orkney. She has also been an instrumental tutor with students going on to study at RSAMD and Guild Hall in London. She has developed a music education programme for 0-10year olds to complement and enhance her work in schools.

Her volunteer work has included projects in Orkney and Glasgow with Glasgow based group 'Independance' and training in advocacy, anxiety/stress management, assertiveness training, as well as suicide awareness. She has been a co-opted chair of a school board and an active member of dyslexia Orkney.

Throughout this time Emma has had a passion for personal development and education that has led her to explore Steiner Education, Brennan Healing Science, Mindfulness, Yoga, Alexander Technique, Linklater Voice Method and storytelling, to name but a few.

Emma has had the pleasure to work with a diverse range of people of all ages and abilities. Over the years she has gained a unique insight and intuition around human communication and self-expression, having suffered childhood trauma herself.  She provides a very unique, creative viewpoint on the reasons for communication difficulties and can intuitively help others to express themselves and release their voices through all things artistic and creative.
